A major datacentre operator needed to strengthen perimeter security across a high-risk site. The facility hosted mission critical data for financial institutions, government organisations and corporate clients. Strong physical protection was essential to reduce intrusion risk, support site operations and protect service continuity.
The existing perimeter setup relied on fencing and CCTV, but this no longer gave the security team enough confidence.
Several areas around the site had blind spots. Poor light, fog and wildlife also triggered repeated false alarms. These issues made it harder for operators to identify genuine threats and respond with speed.
The site needed a more reliable detection layer. The system had to cover the full perimeter, work in changing outdoor conditions and integrate with the existing CCTV infrastructure.
The datacentre selected OPTEX REDSCAN Pro RLS-50100 LiDAR sensors.
Several units were positioned around the site to create a reliable virtual perimeter. The sensors provided wide-area detection, allowing long sections of the perimeter to be protected with fewer devices.
REDSCAN Pro created precise virtual walls and planes to detect intrusion attempts with high accuracy. It also allowed the security team to set custom detection zones, helping to filter out irrelevant movement from small animals and reduce nuisance alarms.
The sensors were integrated with the existing CCTV system. When an intrusion was detected, the nearest PTZ camera automatically focused on the incident area. This gave the security team instant visual verification and helped operators assess threats in real time.

The installation strengthened the datacentre’s outer perimeter and improved the performance of the existing CCTV system.
False alarms were reduced, blind spots were addressed and the security team gained a more reliable way to detect and verify threats. By using multiple REDSCAN Pro RLS-50100 units, the datacentre gained a scalable, layered detection system built for demanding perimeter security applications.
